Since 2004, Dr. Saper and the Michigan Head-Pain & Neurological Institute have been studying the effects of occipital nerve stimulation on migraine. Using a device that delivers electrical impulses through wires implanted under the skin and near the occipital nerves at the base of the head, the treatment’s goal is to inhibit or prevent migraine pain.
