Infusion therapy refers to the intravenous (IV) administration of medicines. At MHNI, infusion treatment is usually reserved for those patients with severe headaches that have lasted several days without relief and/or for those patients who have chronic headache and require more aggressive treatment than can be administered at home.
Like the Head•Pain Treatment Unit, MHNI’s Infusion Program is located at St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea in Chelsea, Michigan. One crucial difference is that the Infusion Program is an outpatient, rather than an inpatient program. Outpatient treatment can greatly decrease the cost of your care and allow you to spend more time with your friends and family outside of the hospital setting.
MHNI’s Infusion Program generally requires four days of consecutive treatment. However, you will be discharged at the end of each day to your home or a local hotel and return the following day to resume treatment.
