The typical duration of infusion therapy is 4 days. Each day your infusion physician and staff will determine your individualized program of care. You will be notified of your arrival time each day you are receiving infusion therapy. You will spend 4 to 7 hours each day in the infusion area, depending on your program. While you are receiving treatment, you will be resting in a reclining lounge chair in a private room in the designated infusion area on the Head•Pain Treatment Unit. The nurse assigned to your care will take your vital signs on a frequent basis and will make every effort to make you as comfortable as possible during your treatment.
You may have one adult visitor at a time during your treatment. Please do not bring children or pets with you to your infusion therapy. Although it is possible that you will feel sleepy or sedated from the medicines you receive during your infusion therapy, we encourage you to bring reading material or relaxing things to do during your treatment. You may also wish to bring a portable DVD player or laptop computer with you; WiFi is available as well.
You may have unrelieved pain and/or become nauseated as a side effect of the infusion medications. The clinical staff will monitor you, but we also encourage you to report your level of pain and any side effects to them on an ongoing basis. The staff is committed to making every effort to provide comfort measures to reduce your pain and attend to any side effects that may occur.
